tough to leave out Moses Lake 1999... although they were beat

1st round MLB draft pick: BJ Garbe.. had to retire after he was diagnosed w/ Vertigo. Was one of the best high school players to come through Washington State. He also had help from.....

2nd round MLB 1999: Ryan Doumit (now catcher for Pittsburg)
2nd round MLB 1999: Jason Cooper (still in AA or AAA) will probably make the show very very soon.

Moses Lake was just missing a dominate second pitcher.... they also had 5 other players that played college ball. It was the foundation of the Sr. Babe Ruth team that won the title in 1998. Hard to keep them off the list.

ML's BJ Garbe is also the only player from Washington state to ever be named (Gatorade) National Player of The Year in 1999. And Doumit has really legitimized himself in the Majors as a catcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

An interesting side point, I remember just a couple of years ago when Richland's('02) Travis Buck who was playing for the Oakland A's went to the plate against the M's relief pithcer Eric O'flarety from Walla Walla('03). I believe it was the first time two Big 9 players faced eachother in the Major Leagues. Thats pretty cool, although Doumit or Buck might of faced Detroit Tigers Pitcher Jeremy Bonderman, a Pasco Bulldog('01) alum over the years as well. Very cool for the Big 9!

Two Big 9 players once again meet in a MLB game today(5-23-10)Atlanta Braves vs Pittsburg Pirates:

Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Eric O'Flarety(Walla Walla '03) came in and struck out one (he's pitching great this season!), Pirates Catcher Ryan Doumit(Moses Lake '99) hits walk-off HR in game! Oh, and Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jermey Bonderman(Pasco High '01) is scheduled to throw against the Mariners on Wednsday May 26th. at Safeco, there may be a few Mariners fans rooting for the Tigers on that day ha

Go Richland Bombers at Safeco again in 2010!
