1A Preseason Track Predictions

in no particular order
BOYS
100M- Coulson:Connell, Olney:Zillah, Neiman:Kalama
should be a toss-up with collins and fuller gone
200M- Allen:Cashmere, Olney:Zillah, Neiman:Kalama
Battle bettween Allen and Olney
400M- Krause:Onalaska, Allen:Cashmere, Eberle:Freeman, Neiman:Kalama
Allen is returning favorite to win it
800M- King:Coupevill, Crabill:Charles Wright
These 2 are top notch runners but keep an eye on Hollander from Lynden Chrtistian as well as Empey from Connell and Faubion from Kings
1600- Piatt:port Townsend, King:Coupeville, LaBerge, Crabill:Charles Wright
Crabill and Laberge have advantage of being able to push eachother in practice but Piatt is definitly the favorite
3200- LaBerge:Charles Wright, King:Coupeville, Piatt:port Townsend
LaBerge runs away with it while King and Piatt battle for 2nd
110M Hurdles- Clauson:Kings Waldon:Newport, Ramos: Cascade Christian
Walden pummels everyone but Clauson may surprise since he quit basketball to focus on track. Zoellick(CPC) Reese(NV) can be contenders for 3rd
300M Hurdles- Clauson:Kings, Ramos:Cascade Christian
Expect another great race between these 2 as well as a great battle for 3rd between Waldon(Newport) Reese(NV)and Rosenau(Cascade-Leavenworth)
Shot Put- Lohman:Chewelah, Hatch:Lakeside, Salmonson:Nooksack Valley, Nelson:Chewelah
Lohman pummels opponets with Hatch coming in a definite second with Salmonson and Nelson duking it out for 3rd
Discus- Spoelstra:Lynden Christian, Lohman:Chewelah, Nelson:Chewelah, Thomas:Lakeside
Lohman wins another with teamate Nelson finishing 2nd and Spoelstra in 3rd
Javelin- Craig:Cashmere, Clauson:Kings, Hadley:Connell
Craig upsets defending champion Clauson while Hadley, just a sophomore, finishes in a distant 3rd
High Jump- McCrum:Stevenson, Watson:Freeman, Coulson:Connell
McCrum takes it easily with a toss-up for every other spot on the podium
Pole Vault- McCrum:Stevenson, Olivera:LaCenter, Vandebos:Lynden Christian
McCrum wins another with Vandebos beating out Olivera for 2nd
Long Jump- Mart:White Salmon, Clauson:Kings, Phillips:Bellvue Christian
Clauson wins if he even does this event which he could have won for state last year but opted to compete in Triple jump. Which i doubt he will again so Mart wins with Phillips in 2nd
Triple Jump- Clauson:Kings, Brandon:Seattle Academy, Adkins:Lake Roosevelt
Brandon takes Clauson off his high horse by defeating him. Clauson in 2nd followed by adkins

These are my predictions for this years track and field season. Anyone else have someone to keep an eye out for?

Nice to see some predictions.
I will analyse more later but noticed that Clauson is in 5 events.???
How about girls predictions?
thanks

Girls predictions I will start to look at soon. But if you look under Long Jump RodFather you would notice I said Clauson wins IF he does this event which I doubt he will and that is why I said he would not win

Here are my thoughts (focusing on automatic times and state performances)
boys
100-coulson:connell, big favorite - then olney:zillah due to his big 200 strength - then hewitt:eek:nalaska - then toss up between zunie-allen:kalama, nystrom:white salmon, and neiman:kalama. Lots of youth so we'll see who become the next star.

200-olney:zillah, big favorite - then coulson:connell due to his youth and 100 speed - then allen:cashmere who is solid - then neiman:kalama, zuie-allen:eek:kanogan and nystrom:white salmon.

400-allen:cashmere, big favorite - then eberle:freeman, great coaching - then krause:eek:nalaska - then nieman:kalama - spencer:vashon could surprise.

800-king:coupeville unless the schedule is too much for him - crabill:ch wright although his football days didn't help - then toss up between berry:lakeside, hollander:lynden chr, faubion:king's and empey:connell. The big 2 are big favorites but have big question marks. The next 4 will come down to who can step up.

1600-king:coupeville, big fav after huge xc season - piatt:port t, looked more comfortable in the 3200 last year but should step up - laberge:ch wr, but like piatt seems to like the 32 better - then cross:s. chr, tonnemaker:royal, hollander:lynden chr and rubio: port t??(2nd in xc but didn't run track last year). I assume crabill will focus on the 800 after football weight gain but keep an eye on him. Watch out for the sophs rose:winlock and emmons:king's.

3200-stacked event. huge battle between king, piatt, laberge and a fast pack not far behind. king:coupeville, endless guts - laberge:ch wr, seems to know how to win the big one - piatt:pt, talented. Then look for rubio:pt if he runs, bear don't walk:nooksack, velasquez:cashmere and cross:s.chr. Again watch the sophs rose and emmons. There will be some good runners from the tridistrict who don't make it to cheney. Qualifying standards need to be changed philosophically.

110HH-walden:newport, family history and one event focus- clauson:king's, the super athlete can do anything on the day but it will be an upset if he does- reitz:eek:nalaska, love improving youth- zoellick:cedar park over ramos:c.chr, not improving. Will it be a head wind or tail wind and who can handle the difference.

300IH-no question clauson:king's, he did it last year with no form and the UW clinics should clean him up- walden:newport if he steps up and runs it hard- otherwise ramos:c. chr, not improving but next best-then rosenau:cascade and reese:nooksack.

relays- cashmere wins both easily as they return most of both teams then ???????

shot- rare to have this many good returners in a senior dominated event. lohman:chewelah big fav - hatch:lakeside if he doesn't choke at state again - nelson:chewelah, their system seems to be working - salmonson:nooksack - peters:chewelah, yep another one - then didier:connell. an impressive group.

discus - Lohman:chewelah big fav - nelson:chewelah easily next - but spoelstra:lynden chr and peters:chewelah are close - then a big pack who need to establish themselves.

javelin-clauson:king's could go big as he matures - however craig:cashmere could be dangerous if he improves - watch out for hadley:connell, an young athlete who could surprise - then look for the young arms of benedict:montesano and hirst:king's.

HJ-no fav as mccrum:stevenson focuses on pv - look for watson:freeman to establish himself - young lagrou:eek:mak is one to watch - weak year for this talent based event so look for a new face to take it all.

PV-Mccrum:stevenson, won't enter comp until everyone else is out - olivera:lacenter should improve but wood:cashmer will go past him - matthews:tonasket, bradley:lakeside and vandenboss:lchr next.

LJ-looks to be a weak year if clauson:king's doesn't compete but after his TJ choke last year, he probably will - mart:w salmon is next but look for clizbe:kalama to improve - fuchs:cedar park, philips:bcs and lam:king's follow.

TJ-another weak event so who will step up - brandon:s.aca looks athletic enough to do it - adkins:lake r. has youth and family history - lam:king's should improve - lawrence:winlock has youth on his side - vlos:lc has experience on his. wide open event so look for the athlete to step up.

team - cashmere big fav then toss up between king's, chewelah, newport, lakeside, charles wright

girls to follow

1a girls predictions (always challenging as girls freshmen can change things)and like the boys speed event, the winds of cheney can drastically change things.
100-beamer:chewelah a slight edge over, wolf:meridian, then williams:ch wr, midgley:uprep, and elder:tenino. However plan a new freshmen to get in the mix.

200-beamer:chewelah big fav, wolf:meridian if she runs it, williams:ch wr next with peterson:s.chr and midgley:uprep not far behind. Will Murphy:an wr run it?

400-shouldn't change much from last year's final. murphy:an wr again without a challenge, close between wolf:meridian and beamer:chewelah then toss up but plan on new comers.

800-murphy:an wr yet again unchallenged unless meyers:NW runs it, then close battle between rice:king's, bush:newport and hussey:bcs.

1600-meyers:nw big fav, then rice:nw and bush:newport will battle, then a toss up.

3200-meyers:nw unchallenged, watch for freshmen rice:nw and patton:cashmere. Then tossup between daniels:rainier, eslinger:king's and middleton:lakeside.

100H-casper:connell and altig:bcs battle for the title, then chamberlain:lacenter, benner:naches and astroff:s.aca battle for 3rd.

300H-oldham:bcs slight fav over schoenherr:rainier, then dropp off to neiman:freeman and eissinger:meridian. Look for altig:bcs and casper:connell to finish strong.

400relay- castle rock and chelan battle, then toledo and cashmere.
800relay- charles wright and toledo battle, then look for king's and seattle academy.
1600relay- king's again by far then seattle academy and stevenson.

shot-heptathlete chamberlain:lacenter should beat romey:freeman and coffman:lakeside again. Look for sophs novy:montesano and taylor:naches.

discus- romey:freeman then townsend:eek:kanogan and johnson:nooksack.

javelin-no event looks closer schoenherr:rainier just over townsend:eek:kanogan with ilyankoff:coupeville, waszkewitz:chelan and durham:toledo not far behind.

HJ- super athlete chamberlain:lacenter a big fav then neiman:freeman, then toss up between yoro:eek:rting, berg:kettle falls and taylor:connell.

PV-mesnik-green:s.aca. beats out egland:lakeside then blatchford:king's and seacrest:lakeside.

LJ-benner:naches a big fav, then boutillier:naches, then toss up of an average pack so look for newcomers.

TJ-peterson:s.chr over boutillier:naches and beamer:chewelah. Watch out for altig:bcs.

team-can bcs defend? probably but watch for chewelah, meridian and king's.
