Senior running back Joe Campbell of Tri-Cities Prep in Pasco, Washington is on the verge of breaking the 24 year old WA State 1B (B-8) Career Rushing Record. The record is currently held by Lonnie Simpson (Inchelium) who set the mark of 6,274 career rushing yards in 1983. Joe Campbell currently has 6,117 yards, just 157 shy of Simpson.

Last Friday against four-time defending State Champion LaCrosse-Washtucna, Campbell tied the State's career All-Purpose Touchdown mark at 102 (tied with Josh Adams of Sprague-Harrington, 2001-2004) and set the All-Time Scoring mark with 664 points (passing Josh Adams).

Campbell, a 5'10 1/2" 175 pound college running back prospect, is averaging 301.6 yards per game on the season to date. He has rushed for 2,105 yards and 24 touchdowns in the first seven games. In 2005 he rushed for 2,205 yards and 26 touchdowns while accumulating 1,533 yards and 21 TD's as a sophomore. He has a chance to go over 10,000 All-Purpose (rushing, receiving, KOR, PR) in his career as he currently has 9,583 AP yards to date.

Colleges that have shown the most interest so far are the University of Idaho, University of Montana, Boise State, Holy Cross (DI-AA - Mass.), and Carroll College, MT. (4 time defending NAIA National Champions).

Joe Campbell carried the ball just 12 times for 360 yards and 6 touchdowns against Sprague-Harrington on Friday afternoon to become the Washington State All-Time Career Leading Rusher with 6,477 yards.
