Now I don't pretend to be a volleyball guy, but when I heard the following story I was intrigued:

So Team A is playing Team B. Team A is serving and up 21-4. Team A calls a timeout and the server is then instructed to serve into the net. Is this a standard unwritten rule in volleyball?

I guess my thought is volleyball is different than other sports in that you want to be the first to 25. You try to get there as quickly as you can before the other team. If it was 21-9 does that make a difference?

Thank you for any response on this.

I have been around the game for many years and have seen this done. I have seen coaches have their players jump serve or something else to increase the chance of a mistake. Unlike basketball, football, baseball, you are unable to slow the game down so some people do try to make it last longer.

Volleyball is unlike team sports like basketball, football, socceer etc. whereas you have NO clock or time restrictions. Just another thought
