The Knights will welcome the Charles Wright Academy Tarriers to David Nielsen Memorial Field tonight at 7pm for the opening round of the Washington State 1A playoffs.

The Tarriers will have about a 4-hour bus ride across the mountains. The question is, which version of the Tarriers will show up and take the field? Will it be the team that averaged 350 passing yards per game and threw for 17 touchdowns over the first half of the season? Or will it be the team that average less than 150 passing yards per game and threw for just 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions in their 4 most recent games? Lately they have relied much more heavily on their run game and leading rusher Desmond Jones. Jones has broken the 100-yard mark in 2 of the last 3 games.

In the early season, Tarrier quarterback Henry Cheney ramped up his passing game each week, culminating in a 486-yard single game performance in week 6 against Vashon Island that resulted in 3 touchdown passes and a 76-52 victory. (There had to be some tired kickers that night.) The performance earned Cheney the Elite Performance of the Week honors from Ryland Spencer and the folks at Northwest Elite Index. He has been inexplicably quiet ever since.

CWA finished second in the Nisqually league behind Cascade Christian and made it into the playoffs by virtue of a 29-3 win over Klahowya last week to secure the District 3 #3 seed. They have an overall record of 3-6 and have scored 232 points while conceding 347 points on defense.

The Knights (10-0) get to tonight's contest courtesy of a 70-2 drubbing of the Goldendale Timberwolves in the SCAC crossovers last Friday. To this point in the season, the Knights have been very balanced on offense. They have racked up 2,187 rushing yards and thrown for another 2,143. Guiding the attack will be junior quarterback Kaden Jenks. Jenks has thrown 36 touchdowns against only 2 interceptions. He has completed 66% of his passes, but has really ramped it up over the second half of the season; completing over 75% over the past 5 games.

The Knights' defense has only allowed 678 total yards in 10 games. They are holding opposing quarterback under 40% completions and have yet to allow a passing touchdown. Opposing runners are average just 1.3 yard per carry and the Knights have forced 28 turnovers. The Knights have scored 569 points while allowing only 49.
