The Royal Knights will head to Spokane on Saturday to face Deer Park at 1pm in the state semifinals at Gonzaga Prep HS.
Deer Park has only one loss this year to St. Maries of Idaho, who eventually won their state championship last weekend. In the last two weeks, Deer Park has taken down two consecutive SCAC opponents. Last week they made the big plays when needed en route to a 24-7 win over Zillah. They have a balanced and competent offense, but their real strength is their defense. They are physical up front and force their fair share of turnovers. They were tested in league play, but came through unblemished.
Royal's defense has also come up big throughout the playoffs, scoring two defensive touchdowns in a 42-12 win over La Salle. Royal racked up 250 yards on the ground in that game. Which defense will control the game? Will we have a defensive battle or an offensive shootout? The winner moves on to the State Championship game the following week in the Tacoma Dome.
