I know this thread is usually 1A stuff, but I have to post a little 2A ditty on here...

The Lynden Lions have a chance to become the only school in Washington state history in any classification to win the football, basketball, and baseball championships in a given year. They've already completed football and basketball (obviously) and are in the final four over in Yakima this weekend. A rather impressive feat if they can pull it off - and even if they don't win, they've already proven that they are a particularly special group of athletes from a town of roughly 10,000 people...

That has been quite the story this year. I am with you on the fact that if they can pull off two more wins, that is a very special event, but even if they do not, still an incredibly talented group of kids.

Having watched this group in both football and basketball, and now in baseball, the Junior class is extremely special, and the core of that class play mostly all three sports, but their accomplishments this year have been done in large part to a number of Seniors who specialize more. In football I think of their Oline stud in Taylor Witman and RB Kyle Hansen. That is also to mention a handful of Seniors on the defensive side of the ball. In basketball I think of Weilinga and Jacob. Now in baseball, the obvious is ace pitcher Jordan Kreider who pitched and hit the Lions to two victories last weekend.

You add to those guys a scary talented Junior class, and you have something special.

Good luck to the Lions this weekend. Would be wonderful to see history made, but if that is not the outcome, what an awesome group of kids who have accomplished so much already.

I was actually surprised to learn that only 3 of the boys on the baseball team were on both the Football and Basketball teams as well... And I agree with you about the senior specialists. Whitman, Korthuis, Ammons, Wielenga, Jacob, Kreider, Shindruk - just a few of the names that will definitely be missed next year.

I certainly think that the 2012-2013 teams will still be competing for championships in all three sports again next year though!
