Royal pulled off a tough win over a top-5 ranked Connell Eagles squad last week. The Knights took the early 19-10 lead into the halftime break, but the Eagles stormed back to take a 4th quarter lead 20-19. The Knights didn’t panic (although I admittedly did just a bit) and marched the ball down field for a game winning touchdown and 2-point conversion to take a 27-20 lead with just a few minutes left in the game. On Connell’s next possession, safety Kaden Jenks read the double-pass perfectly and intercepted the deep pass. Strong running by Joe Lang helped run out the clock and secure the victory.

Offensively, junior quarterback Kaden Jenks has surpassed the 200-yard passing mark in each outing so far this year and senior running back Joe Lang has topped 100 yards rushing in all 3 games. This week the Knights have their second consecutive home game and will square off with the Cashmere Bulldogs. Cashmere is a program with great tradition and strong coaching, but seem to be struggling a big this year putting all of the pieces into place. They started the season off 0-2 against quality opponents and sparked a 4th quarter comeback to notch their first win against a decent KiBe team. What kind of momentum will that give them?

The Knights will have to stay balanced on offense and control Cashmere’s fullback on defense to keep their record unblemished.
