Kinzi Poteet was MVP of the toughest league in the state. I'm sure the gal from Tumwater had a great year, but I think Poteet, Standish and Valdez should haveall finished ahead of her in the voting for statewide MVP.

Couldn't agree with you more Clank. My sister-in-law was at the State tournament to watch her team Fife. She said that Tumwater was a good team and came out of no where to end up 2nd. She said that in the 10 years she has been a Fife volleyball fan that everyone knows that the Yakima Valley produces the best teams. She was shocked that someone from over here did not win the MVP. She thought it should have gone to Valdez because she anchored that team to the Championship, and it usually goes to someone on the Champoinship team. But Poteet and Standish also should have ended up vying for the MVP too, way ahead of the Tumwater girl. Can someone tell me who is in charge of the voting and the newspapers that are involved in the voting? Of course Seattle area has more voting power than our valley does if it comes to West vs. East side. Athletes over here don't get that much exposer.

Thanks for the link bball2002. Somebody said it also depends on past appearances. Like Valdez and Standish should have gotten alot of votes because their teams have been at the State Tournament and finished high in the standings. Someone also said it has to do with all-league rankings and what each athlete got in the previous years. That still leaves Standish, Valdez and Poteet with high rankings. Where is lightsouttony when you need her? Mabey because she is a coach, she can bring clarification to all this.

Sorry, I'm not much help...can't really figure out why the voting was completed as such. I watched state on Friday and I think either Valdez or Standish should have recieved the MVP award. Both players anchored their programs and had excellent tournaments.

Thanks lightsout_tony. I have asked around and others have said the same thing regarding not knowing how the voting is compiled. Good luck next year, it will be a WIDE open field for districts and State. You should have a great chance to get Toppenish farther than they have been in years.

Those teams are not for the state tournament, they are the AP all state teams. WRiters from around the state voted on that team, and I wonder how many were at state and how many just voted along league lines.

Yeah that's what we were thinking. We only have a few (2-Yakima-Herald and Tri-Cities) papers over here on the East side of the mountains, so we were thinking we got screwed. The names in the above posts have numerous State appearances and were important players for their teams success. I'm sure that the Seattle-side writers did not make it over for the AA State tournament, and had no clue who the names on the ballots for the East side were. Very Unfortunate
