[Submission to the Bothell Kenmore Reporter.]

Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) Eagles took home the Cactus Jam Tournament "Cactus Division" basketball championship with a win over Kirkland's Lake Washington High School Kangs 54-52. After trailing by 10 during the first half, the Eagles battled back in the 4th quarter despite foul trouble. Evan Scholten, Cedar Park Christian's 6'7" senior, led all scorers with 15 points and was named Cactus Jam Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Fellow senior teammate, Luke Saufferer had 13 points. For Lake Washington, juniors' Kelly Guy and Drew Heimdal finished with 14 and 13 points respectively and were named to the All-Tournament team along with Scholten, his teammate Trey Drechsel, Ransom Everglade's Julian Marx and Bergen Catholic's Nadi Beciri. With the win, Cedar Park Christian Coach Adam Lynch believes they "have a solid foundation to build on for the rest of the season." He added that the Eagle team members are a "talented group committed to playing the right way… hard and together."
Local teams performed well in the Phoenix area tournament. In addition to the Cedar Park Christian/Lake Washington 1st/2nd place finishes, the Woodinville's Girls team also took home a 1st place championship in the Cactus Jam Girl's Division. Just like Bothell High and Cedar Park Christian's Mountlake Terrace's campus, the Eagles remain unbeaten this season at 8-0. The Kangs record is now 7-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Cedar Park Christian plays next at home on January 2nd at 7 PM in a Nisqually League 1A matchup vs. Cascade Christian.
