Re: Grandview wins first game

Grandview defeated Granger in the tournament's first game by a score of 55-48. The Castro kid from Granger was hot, and Grandview's Valencia dropped a couple of long shots as well. The tournament is pretty loaded with some of the top 2A teams in the state with Forks, Nooksack, Cashmere, and Grandview. The tourney also features 4A Southridge, 3A Prosser and Ellensburg, and 1A Zillah and Granger. The Hounds play White Swan tonight at 8. They open the tourney tomorrow morning as well at 8 with Omak and then play Ellensburg at 3:30 to finish pool play. Tournament play will start Saturday night.

Re: Grandview wins first game

haaha.. did everybody look at the pools... why does grandview have the easyest teams in their pool?? just so they can make it to the finals. And erik martinez of zillah is playing with zillah NOT granger.

Re: Grandview wins first game

Granger and Ellensberg are two pretty good teams that are in grandview's pool. It was tough getting by Granger, and the Hounds will have to play pretty good ball to get by Eburg tomorrow, as Ellensburg jumped all over Granger and beat them by twenty. Eburg had a 24-2 first quarter lead, then the teams played even the rest of the way. Grandview tonight did thump White Swan by 40, with the bench getting a lot of PT. Grandview could get another game like this tomorrow morning at 8, as they play Omak who lost to White Swan, but then it's the tough match up with Ellensburg to close pool play. I just left the Forks/Cashmere game in the middle of the third quarter, and Cashmere is up by about 15. Caples and Miller are looking good, but Cashmere like last year isn't playing the bench.

Re: Grandview wins first game

why we talkin bout grandview?? lets talk bout zillah or wapato... in the D pool..

Re: Grandview wins first game

Grandview started slow this morning against Omak, but eventually won something like 95 to 65 with the bench seeing most of the playing time. Grandview now plays Ellensburg at 3:30 for the top two seeds out of their pool for tonight's 9:45 quarterfinal matchups. After the Grandview-Ellensburg game there are some pretty interesting matchups with Nooksack vs Prosser, Southridge vs Zillah, and Forks vs Sunnyside.

Re: Tourney update

The semi finals are set with one match-up between Prosser and Nooksack, which will be a rematch of a pool play game in which Prosser won in double overtime after being down by as many as thirteen. Lockrie and Frank fired in some three's and Crawford played big down low. Prosser won their quarterfinal over Riverside Christian, who with the Pynch brothers made the game close all the way, but Prosser prevailed by about 7. Nooksack defeated Zillah by twenty in their quarterfinal game to set the rematch. The other semi will be between Grandview and Cashmere. Grandview defeated Ellensburg 37-34 in their final pool game that was a real slow down game. Ellensburg played great defense and hit three's to stay close. A.J. Valencia was solid with four three's and some great steals. Zach Poteet, Nick Sears, and Brandon Artz all played tough down the stretch. Eburg had the ball trailing by one with seconds left when James Vela stole an inbounds pass and was immediatley fouled. He sank both free throws to ice the win for the Hounds. Grandview defeated Forks by fourteen in their quarter final game. Grandview used several players with several different lineups and Nathan Zavala and A.J. Valencia hit a combination of drives to the bucket and some three's in the second quarter to really give the Hounds the edge that they never let go. Forks led by Jordan Justus and his lights out shooting is a solid team that placed at state last year. Cashmere defeated Ellensburg by five in their quarterfinal to give the Greyhound Bulldog match up tomorrow.

Re: Grandview vs Nooksack in championship

In a preview of Martin Luther King day at the Sundome, Grandview will play Nooksack in the championship game of Grandview's Late Summer Classic Tournament later today. Nooksack avenged it's early loss to Prosser by nine points. Grandview defeated Cashmere 50-48 in a district championship atmosphere. Grandview was down by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter and using tenacious defense put Cashmere in panic mode coming down the court. A.J. Valencia drove baseline with 2 seconds left and laid in the game winner. Valencia once again hit some key threes and layins to lead the Hounds. Sophmore C.J. Lopez hit a big three in the forth and also contributed big time on defense. James Vela fell hard to the ground on a driving lay-in to put the Hounds within 6 with about four minutes to go and did not return to the game, but should be okay for the championship game. Anthony Andrews also fouled out, so the Hounds made their stretch run at the end without two of their best players, showing once again how tough the depth is. Valencia, Zavala, Artz, Medina, Sears, and Lopez all keyed the run down the stretch that led to Valencia's lay-in. Cashmere is tough, no doubt with Caples, Miller, Frost, Clokely, and Theiss all being very athletic.

Re: Nooksack wins it

Nooksack defeated Grandview 62-46 using their inside play and outside shooting, as well as creating some key turnovers into easy buckets. Grandview did play without James Vela, who rested his knee to be on the safe side. Nothing to take away from Nooksack though, they were the better team today. These two teams will play again on Martin Luther King day in the Sundome. Prosser defeated Cashmere in the third and fourth game. An overall successful summer for the Hounds, showing how tough they will be with their quickness and depth, as well as hitting the three. A few months away though, first off James, Brandon, and Frankie are going to go and win some football games.
