the top ten boy in the scac

Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy....better check your grammar workbook if you are going to try and make it through Whitworth....

Here ARE the top ten SCAC boys...

1. Joe Perkins
2. James Dykes
3. Duran Torrez (Actually, there probably isn't a whiskers difference between these three...:) )

The above three are the only players to consistently average below 80 in the league. Everyone after these three have shown slashes of scoring ability, but all lack consistency. This makes ranking them somewhat problematical. You have to look at how they play away from their home course. When you do that, the above three stand out even more, but 4-6 become easier to define as well.

4. Marcus Kilthau
5. Dorsing
6. TJ Inions
7. Brad Gilbert
8. Lloyd/Gleckner
9. Gleckner/Lloyd....take your pick. Not much there away from G'dale.
10. Either of 3 players: Royal #5, Zillah #4, one of two Wahluke kids.

As of the last update at the WIAA site, our league gets 11 boys spots to State. What that does is bring those kids who will shoot anywhere from 86-90 at Desert Aire into the mix. Districts this year could be the most compelling day of golf in our league in years. Won't mean much at State, probably, but some kids who would never get a sniff of Spokane get a decent chance to make the trip! For me, that's just very cool.

Best of luck to all the players, guys and girls, as we enter the last month of the season. Bring on the sunshine!

Obviously Joe Perkins is the best out of those three, He was the only one to make the cut and place high at state last year.

There isn't a whiskers difference between these three? Come on Sleuth, I know you are smarter than that. If you gauge a players ability to play on the road there is only one person who stands out in that group. jjHe shot 74-77-71 to finish T2 in the WJGA State Tournament last year held at Everett G&CC. He got to there by winning the District title held in Walla Walla with scores of 72-74.

Before all of that there was high school golf where he was in contention to win the 1A boys state title, he shot 73-72 to finish T5. I could go on and on. He was the only player among those three who didn't choke.

Those other two players have the ability no question, but who doesn't? They lack quality competition, pressure, experience, and high expectations. When it boils down to everything it is easy to see who has the edge and who will continue to stay on top.

P.S. How are those Zillah boys doing coach?

When that post was written, they were close. Perkins has definitely separated himself from the other two. He's a good player and should rip apart Esmeralda in Spokane this June at State..
