Archbishop Murphy (2A) and King's (1A) win WIAA Scholastic Cup awards

Posted at 10:28 am by Mike Cane, Herald Writer

Congrats to student-athletes at Archbishop Murphy High School and King's High School for winning the 2009-2010 WIAA Scholastic Cup awards in the 2A and 1A classifications, respectively. Archbishop Murphy and King's are both members of the 2A/1A Cascade Conference.

What is the Scholastic Cup? According to the WIAA Web site:

The WIAA Scholastic Cup recognizes performance in the classroom as well as on the playing surface. Schools that finish at the top of their respective classifications in state athletic competition receive points, as do schools that finish at the top in team academic performance. Sportsmanship is also a factor, with substantial points deducted for ejections from contests. At the end of the year, the school with the most points in their classification will be awarded the prestigious Scholastic Cup!

The other 2009-10 Scholastic Cup winners are Mead (4A), Mercer Island (3A), Bear Creek (2B) and Mount Rainier Lutheran (1B).
