Monte (5-1) @ Hoquiam (6-0) Game of the week
Omak (6-0) @ Reardan (5-1)

Week 6, Mid season Picks

Well, conspiracy has it, the Mounties seemed to be better on horses then the Trojans (guess this wasn't the typical Trojan horse)

Week 5 starts with the annual game I love to watch every year. Really hoping it will be better then the numbers show. I'm not going easy on you guys, so tell us who you think will survive week 5......

Connell (3-1) at Royal (5-0) SCAC showdown - Game of the week.
Hoquiam (5-0) @ Elma (5-0)
Woodland (4-1) @ Monte (5-0)
Omak (5-0) @ Cascade (3-2)
Cle-Elum (0-5) @ Highland (0-5) The Browns finally won........

Royal vs Connell Eagles -- Game preview and video webcast info

Well, this game has been circled on the calendars of football fans in the Columbia Basin since the day the schedules were created. The Connell Eagles come to David Nielsen Memorial Field tonight at 7pm to square off against the Royal Knights. We should be able to predetermine the outcome based on comparative schedules, correct? I mean the Eagles lost to Othello 9-7 and the Knights blew Othello out 56-0, right? Both have played the Wahluke Warriors, but the Knights scored four more touchdowns than the Eagles, didn’t they?

If that is how you are setting your expectations for this game, in short, you are dead wrong! The Eagles ALWAYS play their best game against the Knights. Don’t expect tonight to be any different. Do expect the Eagles to be a bit more run oriented. Do expect a war at the line of scrimmage. Do expect “big plays” to be a determining factor. Do expect the Eagles to try to pressure Royal QB Sawyer Jenks. Do expect to get your money’s worth.

This game will likely determine the SCAC-East Championship. The Knights are ranked #1 and the Eagles #4. A game of this magnitude will draw football fans and media from across Eastern Washington and beyond. We will be hosting the crew from Cascadia Preps and the Russell Wilson Quarterback Academy. Expect a halftime interview with them. We will also air a pregame interview of both coaches, which was conducted by Micah Chen of Cascadia Preps earlier in the week.

Get there early to ensure a good seat. If you can’t be there, WATCH LIVE at www.royalknightsfootball.com Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 and the broadcast will begin a little earlier than usual at around 6:30 since there is so much to preview before kickoff. Go Knights!!

Opinions on substitution.....

I've seen this more times than I can count. Team A scores at will, running clock in the second half, Team A pulls starters early in the 3rd quarter, Team B continues to play starters for much, if not the entirety of the the game. Its a two-fold issue in my opinion. Number 1-If Team A is going to show mercy and pull the starters and league rules stipulate the use of the running clock to stop the bleeding, isn't it kind of classless for the other side not to follow suit? Number 2-if im Team A I have to be a little concerned from a safety stand point when i throw freshman out there against fully developed varsity players. Am i alone in these thoughts? Share your opinions here....

Week 5 Picks

oh man, its already Wednesday. Well last week LC through a big wrench in the mix with a win over Baker. Only 8 unbeaten teams left in 1A. Will any of them fall this week?????

Tell us who you think will win.

Mt. Baker 2-2 @ Meridian 3-1. Game of the week.
Forks 3-1 @ Monte 4-0
Cashmere 2-2 @ Omak 4-0
Warden 3-1 @ Royal 4-0
Cascade 3-1 @ Cheney 4-0

Week 4 Picks

We are starting to weed the men from the boys. Week 3 through a curve ball that only OldG hit the grand slam... beginners luck......

Let's see what you say for week 4...(easy week)

Meridian (2-1) at Nooksack Valley (3-0)
Cheney (3-0) at Cashmere (2-1)
Royal (3-0) at Okanogan (3-0)
Lynden Christian (3-0) at Mt Baker (2-1)
Riverside (2-1) at Deer Park (2-1)

Picks for Week 3

Well last week had a few upsets. Zillah came in to give E-Burg their second lost to SCAC 1A teams, and Meridian proved too much for Colville. Also no one guessed that Selah/La Salle would be stopped due to lightning....Richland/Hermiston just waited it out.

Lets see how everyone can pick this week. Lots of undefeated teams left.

Deer Park (2-0) @ Newport (2-0) Game of the week....
Columbia (2-0) @ Monte (2-0)
Wahluke (2-0) @ Royal (2-0)
Cascade (2-0) @ Mt Baker (1-1)
College Place (2-0) @ Connell (0-1)

Preseason look at 1A

The News Tribune used the coaches to rank the 2018 preseason top teams. Lets discuss what you think and tell us if there are any sleepers in the pack.

CLASS 1A

1. Royal – Royal currently has a 41 game winning streak and the Sr. QB Jenks will be firing at some new targets this year. Lots of talent and some 20 Seniors on the roster this year. First game against Ellensburg (Seattle times #10 in 2A)

2. Connell – Connell is returning a lot of key players and still nipping on the heals of the knights. Will Connell break Royal’s winning streak again as they did in 2006? First game against 2A powerhouse Othello.

3. Montesano – Monte was put out last year by a stacked Meridian team. Not sure what is coming back from last year. First game will be a test against Lynden. (Seattle times #4 in 2A)

4. Cascade Christian – CC always comes flying back, Jr. QB Johnson is looking to make a statement this year and he has a lot of returning receivers. Teams will need to find a way to stop this passing attack.

5. Zillah – Powerhouse on the west side of the SCAC, Zillah always finds a way to rebuild. This year should be no different returning some key ball handlers and their defense will be strong. First Game against 2A East Valley

6. Meridian – The loss of several key seniors will make meridian look to several seniors this year that have plenty of experience from last year.

7. Okanogan – Somewhat surprised on this young team. They did really well in 2b, but haven’t pushed the 1A group. CTL has struggled the past few years, maybe this is their year.

8. Colville – NEA has produced a number of good teams in recent past. This year will be no different.

9. Mount Baker – MB is no stranger to the playoffs and I’m sure that the run game will come out hitting hard.

10. La Center – If I remember correctly, this team was sr. loaded last year. Will be interesting to see if they can rebuild and live up to this preseason ranking.

Other notables: Hoquiam, King’s, Cashmere, Newport, Chelan

Interesting Results across the State Week 1

Top 1A programs had a tough go of it last week. Many taking on 2A opponents.
Royal was able to keep Ellensburg at bay. Connell and Othello played a bizarre turnover and penalty ridden 9-7 game. Mt. Baker and Lynden put on a show in a barn burner. Lots of 1A vs. 2A games week one with a decent split going to 1A schools. La Salle showed really well against Yakima's East Valley. Interested to see where the chips fall going into week two. Already hearing that Quincy has dropped Connell for an easier opponent. Any news on that front?

2A Softball 2013

Don't have a dog in the fight this year but have seen a few GNL teams play. The league lost all the dominating pitching. Colville is good. The MaDonna girl is a beast and Cabbage is a pretty good pitcher. They should go deep in the state playoffs. West Valley has no pitching this year after about a 6 year run with good pitching. Cheney lost too many seniors. Deer Park has a freshman pitcher and they are improved. That being said, I think the usual suspects will be there, Selah, Ellensburg, Othello from the CWAC.On the coast not sure but I would suspect WF West, Sequim, and Aberdeen.
