WIAA 1A State Title Game 2017 - Pick the winner.

Well, not much in the surprise column this last week, except the fact that I messed up and GoKnights call me out. I went back in all my records to confirm, and yes I missed the CCC Game. Shame on me. Ok, I’m over it now. Standings out of a possible 29 Points:

25 Points – Wa_Sports, 1AA, GoKnights
24 Points – FrontRowJoe, OldGrenedier (Sorry, you picked the private and now have to suffer)
23, 22, 21, 20 Points – DPJ1, WahFan, Wolfram, and RHS Knights

It’s time for the Dome. Who is going to win and Why? To make it interesting, this game is worth 3 points for picking the winner, 1 point for the person closest to the Meridian total points, 1 point for the person closest to Royal’s total points and tie breaker goes to the one with the closest total game points.

Royal (13-0) vs. Meridian (13-0)
Why?
Score Royal ______; Meridian _______

Semi-Final Picks - Coming down to the wire

Playoffs are the time we say, Hmm what happened. Everyone picked Royal and no one picked Newport. As OldGrenadier mentioned “It's tough to face the same quality opponent twice in the same season” and this time the Grizzly defense showed up. Standing show that everyone is still in the running.
22 Points – 1AA, GoKnights, OldGren, Wa_Sports
21 Points – FrontRowJoe (went out on a limb with CCC and this game was close)
20 Points – DPJ1
18 points – WahFan, RHSKnights, Wolfram

Semi-Finals are here and these 4 teams are gearing up for battle, is there going to be an upset this week? Who are you picking??? ***Game worth 2 points.

Newport (10-1) @ Royal (12-0)
***La Center (9-2) @ Meridian (12-0)

Royal vs Newport Grizzlies -- Game preview and Webcast info

This Saturday at 1pm at Lions Field in Moses Lake the Knights will face another formidable opponent on their quest for a return trip to the Tacoma Dome. The Newport Grizzlies (10-1 record) of the Northeast A League, avenged their only loss of the season by defeating the favored Colville Indians 21-7. The Grizzlies have a very quarterback-oriented offense and are led at the position by senior Koa Pancho. He is both their leading passer and leading rusher. He completes 65% of his passes and has thrown 12 TDs against 7 interceptions. He has also run for over 800 yards and 16 rushing TDs. Joining him in the backfield will be junior power back Danny Bradbury. Pancho’s favorite receivers are both over 6’ tall.

The Knights will have to keep Pancho in the pocket and limit his effectiveness on designed run plays to control the game. The defensive line will need to maintain their gap responsibilities and keep the linebacking corps clean to read and react. Offensively the Knights will want to again establish their running game to open the passing game. The Newport defense isn’t overly big, but is very athletic and have limited teams to 2 TDs or less in all but two games.

The Knights took down the undefeated Okanogan Bulldogs at the Apple Bowl in Wenatchee last Saturday with a final score of 49-0. Running back Alonso Hernandez and the offensive line set the tone early by running for 65 yards and a TD on the very first play of the game. Hernandez finished with a career high 200 rushing yards on the day. His line gave him creases to run through and he didn’t hesitate.

Quarter Final Picks - Who will advance?

I knew there was going to be a #4 over a #1, I just picked the wrong one. I guess it was wishful thinking. Welcome back Front_Row_Joe. Always good to see the top notch pickers coming back. Update on where we sit going into the Quarter finals.

20 - 1AA and GoKnights
18 - Wa_Sports, Old Grenedier, Front_Row_Joe, Wafan, RHS Knights
17 – Wolfram
16 - DPJ1

You would think this week would be a little easier, but half the teams are unbeaten still. Looks like another good week. Again this week we have another 2 point game at bay ***.

Colville (9-1) @ Newport (9-1)
Royal (11-0) @ Okanogan (9-0)
La Center (8-2) @ CCC (10-1)
*** Monte (11-0) @ Meridian (11-0)

Royal vs Freeman Scotties -- Game preview and Webcast info

The Knights will host the Freeman Scotties of the Northeast A League tonight. Watch LIVE

Royal got off to a bit of a slow start against La Salle last week, but rattled off 4 TDs in a span of less than 5 minutes at the beginning of the 2nd quarter to pull away to a 41-0 halftime lead and 48-7 final. Angel Farias was the star on special teams, returning 3 punts for 46 yards or more each. The 2 shorter returns of 46 and 56 yards found the endzone, but the longest (60 yards) was at least as impressive. The run game was dominate as the Knights’ starters averaged better than 9 yards per carry.

The Freeman Scotties showed their resilience last week against Cashmere after giving up the 1st two TDs of the game. They roared back to outscore the Bulldogs 35-7 from that point. The Scotties are athletic and experienced and will pose a challenge to the Knights. Their only league losses were to Colville and Newport. They prefer to run by about a 3:1 ratio, but tend to catch teams by surprise with their passing ability. The running attack is led by senior Keegan Cottrell, who is a big body at 6’ 1” and 190 lbs. The Knights front seven will have to be stout and play in the Freeman backfield and the Royal defensive back will have to keep their eyes out of the backfield. The Freeman defense only gives up 11.5 points per game, which keeps them in games even if their offense isn’t clicking. The offense averages 21 points per game.

Will the Scotties have the firepower to outscore the Knights, who are averaging 54 points per game and yielding less than 4 points per game? Which team will be able to impose their will at the line of scrimmage?

Come out and spend the last home game of the season with the Knights at David Nielsen Memorial Field. If you can’t make it in person, join us and WATCH LIVE at www.royalknightsfootball.com Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm and broadcast will begin around 6:40.

1A Road to the Dome starts now – Pick’em Challenge

And the challenge begins. You will get 1 point for picking the correct team each week. You could be part of the greats like SmallPox in 2014, or FrontRowJoe in 2015, and the current champion GoKnights 2016. Its time to pick for the big marbles, yep its tournament time where anything can (and does) happen. Recap of the regular season
1AA and Wash_Sports picked 82%,

GoKnights and Old Grenadier 80% (must be a Royal thing)
DPJ1 at 70%
Front Row Joe and King Griz at 75%

RHS Knights at 51%. (Rough week)

Looking at this week, we will pick all the play in games. Easy week to score points, so get in now. Please let me know if I messed up on a team.

Nooksack (5-4) @ Sultan (4-5)
Kings (3-6) @ Mt. Baker (5-3)

Stevenson (6-2) @ Monte (9-0)
Forks (7-2) @ La Center (6-2)

Wahluke (5-3) @ Naches (5-3)
Granger (7-2) @ Connell (7-2)

Freeman (6-3) @ Cashmere (6-3)
Cascade (6-3) @ Newport (7-1)

Week 9 Picks - Last of the regular season

Well I thought that there was going to be a lot of perfect picks last week, until Kings dropped the ball and Sultan took the #1 seed in Cascade league. Also, Meridian got a scar last week only beating Nooksack by 1 point. As we go into the last week of the season, most of the spots are for the crossovers are already settled, however there are a few spots to be had.

What do think will happen in the last week???
Meridian @ Mt. Baker – If Mt. Baker and Nooksack both with, would mean a 3 way tie for #1
Nooksack at LC – Winner gets to play Sultan next week, Loser out
Connell @ Wahluke – This is for #2 and #3 seed in SCAC east
Kibe @ Warden – Winner gets to play another week against Zillah, Loser out
Granger @ Naches - This is for #2 and #3 seed in SCAC west
Stevenson @ Columbia – Possible 3 way tie for Trico #2
Riverview @ Royal – going to be close:rolleyes:
Highland @ Goldendale – Someone will finally get a win.

Royal @ Burbank Coyotes -- Webcast Info

The Knights have the opportunity to secure the SCAC-East league title tonight on the road at Columbia-Burbank. Royal remains undefeated after winning their biggest challenge so far this season, taking down previously undefeated Connell 24-21. Every time Royal looked to seize the momentum, Connell battled back. Despite their lowest point total of the season, the Knights did enough to secure the win. Both teams are still set up for potentially deep playoff runs and would meet in the semi-finals if both win out from here. Follow the link to a great game article that also includes some great photos.

http://www.columbiabasinherald.com/high_school/20171016/no_1_royal_holds_off_no_2_connell_24-21

The Columbia-Burbank Coyotes have struggled of late, dropping four consecutive league contests before getting a big rivalry win last week over River View. It will be Senior Night for the Coyotes and their senior QB Reece Humphries is always dangerous with both his feet and his arm. The Knight defense will have to keep him in the pocket and maintain good coverage to limit his big play ability. The bigger question is what will the Coyotes try to slow down the Royal offense? Royal QB Sawyer Jenks has 25 TD passes and just 2 interceptions through seven games. Senior receiver Corbin Christensen has 26 catches for 11 TDs. The Knights have three receivers average 23 yards/catch or more.

Pick-em Week 8 (Playoff picture starting to focus)

OK, I better get back on the ball and get these out earlier. I figured for sure I would have stumped people, but 1AA and GoKnights were perfect, even catching my error of Med Lake not playing Chewelah. DPJ1 would have been perfect except my error. Some good football games last week. 1AA, you missed a great game between Royal/Connell. A lot of people were thinking a blowout, but the game still came down to the final second (0.4 seconds to be exact).

This week we are changing gears and looking at the playoff pictures. With only 2 weeks left, things are going to get lively this Friday night with a couple of league championships on the line. Let us know what you know……

Game of the week....
Zillah @ Granger - SCAC West League Champ
Sultan @ Kings - Cascade League Champ
Columbia @ La Center - Columbia could cause a 3 way tie for Trico
Klahowya @ Coupeville – Coupeville keeping playoff hopes alive
Mount Baker @ Lynden Christian – Both teams keeping playoff hopes alive
Freeman @ Newport – Both teams keeping playoff hopes alive
College Place @ Connell
Royal @ Burbank

Royal vs Connell Eagles -- Live Video Webcast

Week 7 is finally here. It has been circled on the calendar for months now. The Connell Eagles will head our way tonight for the big matchup of undefeated squads.
When it comes to Connell, anything can happen. Comparative scores should be heavily discounted. They have done what it takes to defeat every opponent they have faced. Over the past few games the running attack has really stepped up for the Eagles. Conversely, the Knight defense is allowing only 1.4 yards per carry and less than 200 yards rushing combined for the entire season thus far. This will be a battle of great players, but also of great coaching staffs. Royal has won the last 5 meetings, but Connell won 4 of the 5 before that. Will the Eagles break the streak or will the Knights continue their march forward. The winner clearly has the inside track to the league title and positions themselves for a great post-season run.

Royal @ KiBe Bears -- Webcast Info

After two weeks in the comfortable confines of David Nielsen Memorial Stadium, the Knights will take to the road tonight to face the KiBe Bears in Benton City.

The KiBe Bears offense has been pretty prolific; averaging over 40 points per game. Their lone loss was to a currently undefeated Connell squad. Will the Royal defense yield points to the Bears or will the Bears’ scoring average come crashing down. Will the Bears’ defense find a way to slow down Sawyer Jenks and his high-powered offense?
